rear shocks V70 awd V70-XC70

Hi, I have the regular shocks, How do I get to the top of them to unbolt?
I am thinking I have to lift off the interior panel on the floor just ahead of the rear seat backs, but mine isn't coming upo easy and before I break something I was wondering where the release is, (if any).
Thanks...I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately and somer of them nprobably silly, (like this one) but I am used to working on Alfa's and older red block V0olvo's, also don't have a manual for my winter beater
Thanks again!

If this is your 1999, the rear shocks are bolted on from the top. Yes, you will have to remove the carpet and unbolt the access door for the spare tire. Then pull the whole panel rearward to remove. If you have the 3rd row seats, it gets messier.

After removing the inspection plates, you can see the 2 bolts. But they will be hard to remove as the bottom of the bolts are exposed to the elements and not reachable for cleaning from under the car. There have been instances when the welded-to-the-frame 4 sided nut has broken loose - then it becomes a real problem, so be careful...

You will need to have a jack stand and a floor jack to take the weight off the shock. IIRC, I removed the bottom of the shock before I tackled the top mount. The entire shock can be pulled up through the hole in the floor.

The shock mount may or may not be in reusable condition.

Thanks KlaussC, Yay this sounds like so much fun, yes I have the third row seats and yes the bottom of my car shows a lot of rusty stuff. When replacing my rusted out center exhaust hanger/mount/carrier bearing mount those captured nuts broke off, (just round threaded nubs pressed into the frame not even welded there) I had to wprk a nut into the space and tack it with a welder.
Well, gotta do what I gotta do. ....Why coudn't they have just made it a lift off panel held in by clips?...........sigh
Thank you again!
