Geartronic question V70-XC70 01

I was wondering if when my car is in the manual mode is dummy proof? Meaning if I "forget" to upshift with the car automatically do so. I thought that I remembered that this was the case but unfortunately hit the rev limiter Sunday morning while experiencing a lapse in concentration. (don't flame me too bad)

Thanks.

Only dummy-proof on the down side, and only when you come to a stop. No matter what gear you were in, if you come to a stop it will start you out in first...from then on, it's up to you though. It will never upshift without your help. Otherwise there wouldn't be much difference between the manual mode and the automatic mode.

I believe it goes the other way. It won't let you down shift to overrev (which is where the real danger to the engine is, as any good race car driver will tell you) but it will let you hold a gear at the top. That's how it appeared to work on my test drives. The Lexus IS300 shifted at the top for you...I found it really annoying because it defeats the purpose of enabling the driver to control the shifts.

Hitting the rev limiter won't damage your engine, although maintaining your concentration next time is probably a good idea.
