Engine oil in coolant overflow tank...???

Hi.

There's an oily sludge floating on the coolant in the overflow tank.

Manual transmision so it can't be tranny fluid and it does smell like engine oil.

Any idea where it comes from?

I'm thinking head gasket, but would there be other hints to pinpoint the source?

Thanks!

Re: Engine oil in coolant overflow tank...???

head gasket or if you have a turbo, the oil coolant lines in the radiator could be where the leak is.

Re: Engine oil in coolant overflow tank...???

Does your oil have coolant in it? Also do you have a check engine light? Anything other then a bad head gasket should trip a check engine light.
