Check Engine S40-V40 00

One more question-

My check engine light came on a few days ago. Called the dealer and they said to check gas cap (which I did). I noticed it came on right after a fill up. The cap was on right the first time. I did rescrew it to make sure. Next day light went off. Now lights back on again. Is there a way to reset it? According to dealer it can take up to a week to reset itself. Is this true?

Thanks

Re: Check Engine S40-V40 00

You can reset the light anytime you like. Here is the procedure:

- Turn key ot position 1

- push and hold down the trip reset button

- turn key to next position, without starting the car

- continue to hold the trip reset down until the light starts to flash

- after 2-3 flashes, release the button

- turn the key off

- wait 10-15 seconds, then restart the car.

The light should now be off.

Good luck

Re: Check Engine V70-XC70 99

My light came on when I gassed up with the radio on and the engine wasn't running. It didn't go off on it's own. After that I made sure everything was off when I filled up. The light came on 2 other times in the first year so they changed the gas cap under warranty. It hasn't happened since.

Re: Check Engine S40-V40 00

If it is indeed the gas cap (doubtful if it was on properly and tight though) then the system will go through a series of tests during certain driving conditions. I assume you didn't fill it up with the engine running..

Depending on the sort of 'mix' of driving you do it may turn off sooner as it can do it's set of tests faster.

If you don't notice any difference in driving then I would drop by at the dealer at some time and have them read out the code. It may be something completely different. If it does feel different when driving then I'd go to a dealer ASAP and have them check it out..

Bye, Arno.
