I had a cheapie FCP Shanghai left control arm go west in short order perhaps
because the Chinese supplied an ordinary soft threaded bolt to lock the Ball into the steering knuckle, and because it was NOT A HARDENED lock pin it mashed away in a few week of low around town mileage as the soft bolt deformed.

Then FCP sent a "Meyle Heavy duty" replacement and that just failed inspection
and didn't do 15K miles, mostly around town.... more junk.

I can get an OEM control arm from Volvo at a premium price, but what assurance is there that todays OEM part is the same as the 1995 OEM part, and that the Chinese have started sourcing from Shangai junk merchants?

I see on the Moog website that they offer four different control arms for the 1995
950 depending on Chassis numbers.

Then I did a quick search for the Moog control arms no questions about chassis nrs! one place $40 and another $99 with 15% off and some other promo stuff.
It pays to shop around.

Any ideas abot Moog?

I'm fed up with crap suspension parts, and am nervous about where Volvo gets their parts now. No sense in paying a huge markup for nothing.

Here is a TRW on ebay for 83.00. You can tell just by the weight this is a good part.

If the Moogs turn out to be junk, I'll give the TRW a shot
That E-bay price seems way lower than others selling TRW I wonder if they
have the other side too or if it's just someone unloading an unused part at a discount? Does the TRW feature a grease fitting? Remember them?

I have the old style arms on my 850 where you can change the ball joint only. I'm basing my recomendation for TRW on tie rods that I replaced too long ago to remember. The TRW's I used were so much heavier than what the garage used on the other side I was amazed. They are still good.

Amazon carries the Lemforder for ~ 100 dollars each.

I bought a replacement ball joint for the 960 from Tasca and it had the blue bag but the part had a TRW stamp on it.

If you can find TRW brand, I would recommend them. Very stout suspension products.

The TRW have the big price tag on it , about the same damage as Tasca Volvo and OEM. $125-135 ish each.

I have always had good luck w/ Moog suspension parts. They are typically the brand I look for when I have suspension work coming up and OEM is not available or astronomically priced.

I am wary of FCP psrts for the same reasons you expressed and for various parts, but I didn't realise the problem went to OEM Volvo parts as well. Can you not get standard European made control arms?

Some of the parts places are claiming that Lemforder is the original OEM
mfgr for the Volvo control arms. I pulled the trigger on Moog this AM but strangely one place had only the left arm and one only the right in Moog.

I'm only speculating about what Volvo will do now that it is owned by the
Chinese. It seems to be the trend to supply cheap parts that look right and fit
and are dirt cheap and made out of shoddy material. The bad news on control arms is that you need to spring $70-80 to get the front end aligned and if the arm fails they don't cover alignment and labor, and in FCPs case they didn't honor their promise to give me credit for a bad part, now their second arm
(Meyle) failed.

I see that FCP is peddling Lemforder control arms now, but NOT to me.

I'll find out if the Moog arms are any good, and it's strange that on the Moog
website, they tell how to spot counterfeit Moog parts, so there's another parts problem, maybe there's counterfeit Meyle parts too.

Where did you saw the 40 dollars for Moog Control Arms.

I might also be looking to try the Moog stabilizer bar links since they come with grease fittings.

In the Midwest, I go through a new set of bar links every 2 years. The roads are pretty bad in some places.

Partsgeek.com had only the Left Moog control arm
Autowarehouse.com had only the Right Moog Control arm
