Universal O2 Sensor 850 1995

Has anyone ever used a universal or one for another vehicle on an 850 NA. Please advise as I think it is obscene at the amount of money they want for one when they are pretty much all the same things.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Universal O2 Sensor 850 1995

Hi,

I replaced the front with a Bosch from Autozone originally made for a Ford. It is an exact fit, and same color wires (4 wire, front O2 sensor). Not expensive Bosch 13223. You have to splice the wires though.

Get the Bosch universal O2 sensors. They are the same ones Volvo uses. The only difference is you may have to do some wiring to get the universal O2 sensor to mate up to the plug.

Re: Universal O2 Sensor 850 1995

I called local auto parts shops and they say that Bosch doesn't make a universal one that fits Volvo, however they did ask me a question if my car has an Air Pump or not. I am not sure what are they talking about here. I am new to 850, how do I check for that? They say it is very important.

Many thanks.

Sin,

I think it is a very good idea to do that. Do you know how much wiring is involved? I will appreciate your tips on that. I am thinking about doing it. What wire diagrams do you use to match the plug.

thanks.

Re: Universal O2 Sensor 850 1995

I believe it is either a four wire or five wire O2 sensor.

You have two options. Simply strip the attached to the car and wire to sensor, then cover with heart shrink. Or try to find the plastic plug and wire that.

My friend did an O2 sensor change on his Acura using the same Bosch sensor that the Volvo one uses.

Hint, if you are going to go with the strip and heat shrink, I recommend heat shrinking little extensions to the existing wire, because each time you do this, you will need to remove the heat shrink and possibily cut and strip more wire.

Re: Universal O2 Sensor S70 1998

You'll have either two or four wires to worry about depending on the type of O2 sensor. If four, two of them wil be the same color (probably white) and can be interchanged when hooking them up to the plug. The other two if at all similar to my S70 will be gray and black as will the remaining two wires on the plug. Same color connections are what your going for here.

P.S. I've had a Beck Arnley universal O2 sensor in for about 10,000 miles now and it seems to work with only slightly degraded performance than the original (probably becuase its not Bosch)
