Poor starting and minor hesitation V70-XC70 2004

My 2004 2.5T V70 often doesn't start smoothly in the morning. When the ignition is turned on if it doesn't start immediately it seems to start one cylinder at a time. I turn off the ignition and try again and it starts perfectly every time. Recently I have noticed a minor hesitation when I first start moving, almost a pulsation. This seems to go away quickly upon driving. The car has 175K miles and has the steel gas tank with no external filter. Is this a filter or pump or pressure regulator or fuel injector issue? Thank you!

Just to close the loop. Took it to my independent Volvo mechanic. Suspected the fuel pump or filter which are in the fuel tank (therefore couldn't change the filter myself) but was actually the mass air flow meter. Running normally again. $450.

Have you checked your fuel pressure ? Is the check engine light on ?

I haven't checked the fuel pressure. The check engine light is not on. Once started the car seems to run normally. And, this usually only happens when the car sits overnight. Of course, this morning it starts immediately!

I just had similar. It was crankshaft position sensor. Replaced it and runs perfect now.

How did you diagnose the faulty sensor? And, is this a reasonably easy replacement or a job for an experienced Volvo mechanic?
