AC clutch plate fatigue can I remplace it with compressor in car S60

I may try the bread clip fix first but I kind of like the idea of replacing the AC clutch. It may cost $100 but then it is fixed.

Can the AC clutch plate be removed on the S60 without removing the compressor and / or removing the belt?

I do not think this is an issue of low refrigerant. The AC clutch does not engage after a 15 mile or 30 mile drive. Car sits for a while and clutch will again engage.

When the clutch gap gets too large for the electromagnet to engage it, I use a long stick and carefully 'nudge' the clutch to see if it engages. Be really careful, the belt is in the way and if the clutch grabs, it will try to toss the stick at your body! Remember, it spins clockwise.

Newer cars have a sensor that sticks into the evaporator. When the evaporator gets cold, the sensor tells the compressor to disengage until the temp rises again. Nice feature, until the sensor fails. This sensor is above and to the right of the gas pedal, behind the kick plate. You can measure the resistance with a multimeter.

BTW, bread clipping the clutch is a 15 minute job, plus time for the glue to cure. The clips can be removed if desired.

Before you delve into a big compressor clutch R&R, you may want to jump the wires at the pressure sensor just to make absolute sure it's not a low charge issue.
