uh-ooh- a squeely whiney noise!?!?! V70-XC70 1999

1999 V70 GLT with some 225K, upon starting up today it emitted a loud, shrill squeely- whiny noise (I know!) from behind the motor, lessens as I let off the throttle...
No fluid leaks evident, no blue and or black smoke from anywhere, and it still runs well, with good acceleration......
Any suggestions here?

    Before you start the car tomorrow, first open the hood so you can tell where the noise is coming from. You could also check the PS fluid level.

    Is your car a turbo? If so, it sits down behind the motor. Other possibilities might include the serpentine belt.
