will V70XC struts fit in a '97 850 850 1997

Working on my 1997 850 NA.
The front struts are shot. The front end bottoms out way to easy.
I was wondering if the springs and/or struts from a XC70 would fit into a '97 850.
Are there "overload" springs available for the front. ?
I would like to raise the car just a bit.

Thanks
Peter

"raising" the car destroys the handling geometry, and you would need to do it for all 4 corners. I would not put XC springs and shocks on an 850.

Shocks usually last around 120-130K miles, depending on road conditions and loads carried. Worn shocks will cause handling problems, extended braking distances, and worn tires.

Besides, if you replace the struts and the rubber bits, the front end will lift itself back to 'normal' height.

Thanks for the info. I forgot about all the geometry involved.
I guess I will rebuild everything back to stock.
I was thinking about going with Bilstein Touring class struts and shocks. Do you have any option on these ? Sporty comfort is what I'm looking for with the replacement.
      Thanks
      Peter

Before you order anything, verify that you do not have Nivomats in the rear. Nivimats have a bottom dust cover, rubber that looks like a bellows. Regular shocks will not fit in the Nivomat brackets. This was a rare option for the 855.

ALL new struts will be softer riding and have more control than the worn struts you now have. The Bilstein TCs are quite soft in my opinion and a couple of dollars less than OE. Koni Sport are more fun because of the ability to adjust the dampers, but they cost twice as much.

Remember to order spring seats for an XC90, or the HD version from IPD.

When replacing the rear shocks, get new shock mounts.

Think about getting a strut cross brace if you want better corner handling.
