TICKING COMING FROM FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AT IDLE V70-XC70

Good day Brickers, there is ticking sound coming from the front passenger side of the car at idle. Opened the hood to listen, no clear indication of where it may be coming from. With hood open it sounds like it's coming from the front engine. Anyone have experienced that before? Thanks

Good day all, changed oil with Mobil 1 extended life, no more ticking.

If you had been using conventional oil and the car sat for a long period of time (or perhaps the PCV system is/was clogged) that could cause lifter noise. Same ticking noise happened on my 93 850 when it sat for a long period of time before I sold it... Maybe only one or two lifters were making the noise?

It did sit for a month. My last oil change was with Castrol. Can't remember if it was conventional or full synthetic.

    Engine noise V70-XC70

No one likes it when you use capitals, it is like yelling. Please do not do it again.

A ticking noise can come from the injectors or lifters. What kind of oil do you use and is the sump full? Does the noise always exist or only when the engine is cold.

If the oil is synthetic and reasonably clean, you may want to have the oil pressure checked. Low pressure could be an indication that the sump pickup O ring may have dislogged or the screen clogged.

Check around the oil filter also. There is a baffle in the Mann filter.

Don't forget to check the serpentine belt and timing belt for excessive wear.

I just looked at a friends XC70 with a similar problem. Traced it to the exhaust variable valve timing solenoid. Took it out, cleaned it and noise went away. Performance improved from what my friend told me.
