Hey all- was just reading the pre-release article(I love GT1,2 and hopefully 3) on IGN(http://ps2.ign.com/previews/13846.html) and realised not once did a Volvo appear in the GT series. I know not every car is there, but Volvo has a few "performance" sedans/coupes/estates, and I think it would increase Volvo's image among younger(and wealthier) consumers. I can't believe the marketing types turned Sony down or Sony completly ignored Volvos. What's your input????

I actually have a cousin of one of my good friends from high school who works for Sony Computer Entertainment America, and worked on the GT2 game--he told me that in fact they were working on a licensing agreement with Volvo, and apparently Volvo didn't like their offer/package. Interestingly, if Volvo had agreed to the agreement, he wanted to take my car out to a track to record the sounds for the possible GT2 Volvos...

It probably comes down to licensing issues and limiting the complexity of the game. Notice how they don't have Ferrari. Ferrari probably didn't care to be included, so they put in that French thing and made a reference to Ferrari.
Perhaps Volvo/Ford didn't want volvo included because of their FWD lineup. On the (virtual) track the Volvo's FWD setup would lose out to its real-life competitors' (MB, BMW) RWD setup in flat out racing.
What's your favorite car on GT2? The TVR Speed 12 is such a beast I love it.

Get the Suzuki Escudo rally car & put racing slicks on it...it'll kill just about anything, but handling is a bit touchy...950ish HP.
Sick.
Otherwise, I choose the Calsonic Nissan Skyline GT-R. Just fit's my aggressive driving style.
I have to find a PS2 and GT3 A-spec.
Happy racing!

Agreed, having some 3000-plus sedans and FWD probably wouldn't be very competitive against RWD Bimmers and E55s. As much as I love my Volvo, it'd probably get smoked in the game by all those great little Japanese and German cars. I find the TVR 12 a totally insane piece of machinery when you modify it to the max--that thing is almost uncontrollable on some tracks! I like the more balanced cars--a lot of the 4WD cars are easy as pie to drive fast in that game (FTO LM). I actually like the TVR Ceberra LM(?) a lot, balanced handling, yet gobs of torque getting out of turns.

For GT2, I like the lightest cars with balanced handling.
That's why my favs on GT2 are the S2000 GT1, the TVR Griffith 5.0, the Tommy Kaira ZZII. And I've noticed that many of the American cars with RWD absolutely suck at cornering. So I don't particularly like the Saleen Mustang Widebody.
I hate the heavier cars, that's why I don't particularly like 4wd cars in this game or in real life.
As a recommendation, try the Nissan station wagon. I can't remember what model it is, but it's an Infinity. Looks exactly like a Volvo 855/V70 with an Infinity grill.
Then again, it's only a game.

Yeah, usually lighter weight will pay dividends on the track, so it is with GT. The S2000 GT1 looks sweet but it is a bit lacking in grunt. And I totally agree, all the American muscle cars in GT2 suck big time--heavy, ponderous handling, not to mention ugly styling too!
Give those smaller japanese 4WD cars a try though, they're not too bad, they are a bit heavier but they pack turbos most of the time so you can go nuts with mods and they have a serious traction advantage at the start and in the really twisty road courses.
Oh yeah, I got me one of those Nissan Stagea wagons as well! I think it was a Nismo version or something--bright yellow! Hehe, all this talk has got me wishing that GT3 will come out sooner than the release date.

the S2000 GT1 has something like 450hp and 577hp and 341ft.lbs, in a car that weighs less than a stripped out Miata.
Plus, for track racing, you don't need that much torque. Torque usually puts you into the barriers. I've found that the lighter the car, the faster you can go into corners, the fater through the corners, and the faster out of the corners you can go. So outright power is nothing without the lightness.
I too like the FTO with 4wd. But I guess I'm a purist when it comes to the preference of RWD. I agree with the traction advantage, but with the majority of races having 5laps, you easily make up for it. And I'd rather have a very light rwd than a slightly heavier 4wd even for the twisties.
That's it, the Nissan/Infinity Stagea Nismo or something or other, in BRIGHT yellow.
With all the power mods I'm putting onto me REAL car, I can't see anything else. Basically, I'm just waiting for my exams to end so I can send my transportation to be modified.

Torque is loads of fun in the right hands I guess. But yeah, some of the more torque-endowed beasts in GT2 are a real handful coming off a tight corner. Purist or not, you'll recognize the advantage of all those 4WD cars when it comes to those endurance races.

It's probably due to marketing that there are no Volvos in any of these games. There probably is a lack of effort on the part of Volvo to push it's cars into a video game considering the slightly older age group they're trying to attract (although that has changed in recent years). Of course, that didn't stop AMG E55s and BMWs from appearing in GT2. Could also be that Volvo has yet to break the performance market in Japan and that is, after all, where the game is produced. But I agree, Volvo would do itself some good if it managed to get it's cars put into such a highly-anticipated console game like GT3.

Nice comeback kiddo, how that relates to the original post I don't know--at least I know what the deal is. Go back to your peddling of S60s and tell them how much faster they are to the older, aging Volvo lineup.
PS: You REALLY crack me up bud.

No offence intended here derspi, but I just took delivery of a 2001 S60 T5M with just about everything excluding NAV and with only 300 kms on the clock I took my friend's heavily modified GTP by 3 car lengths to 120 km/h and was actually pulling away at the time (it would've been more at the end of the 1/4 if we ran that far). He's been clocked at 0-60 in the low sixes and high fives with 1/4s in the high 13s and low 14s. He claims he hooked up right off the line and I STILL laid a licking on him out of the hole. I can't wait to see how fast this thing gets after another 2-3000 on the clock.

Hey, none taken--I hope I didn't offend you either. I have mainly great things to say about the new S60T5 and overall, I like it. I hope it didn't seem like my post was about S60 bashing because it's totally not--it's an ongoing argument/differences of opinion with the other poster.
Hey, break that thing in first for crying out loud! Your new car will thank you and ultimately reward you in the end.

Drive it like its going to be driven for the rest of its life. If something's going to break, it'll break.

Yeah but too bad it might break sooner rather than later. But hey, it's your money, do what you want with it.
