KYB or Sachs shock / strut replacement S40-V40 2001

Time to replace the struts and shocks on the '01.

Looking for opinions on KYB ($318) vs. Sachs ($380).
The KYBs are comparable to original equipment according to the catalog.
I'm not sure what came on the car from the factory, but I know it wasn't KYB.

I've used KYB on other cars in the past and have always been satisfied, but don't really know anything about Sachs.

The price difference isn't huge. What about the quality and ride?
I should add that this car is just a daily driver and there is no interest in any performance upgrades.

Edit: I see Tasca has them for around $300. I think I'd choose that option over the KYB.

KYB or Sachs shock / strut replacement S40-V40 2001

I'm not sure about the S40/V40 series, but some model older Volvo's (240, 850/S70/early V70 and probably the 740's/940's too) came from the factory with Boge shocks and struts. As I understand it, Boge is now owned by Sachs. So Sachs is now OEM.

If it were me, I'd contact Tasca and ask which brand they are selling for $300. Chances are pretty good it's Sachs. BTW - If you can still find Boge I'd go with them...:) Especially if you can find German made ones!

FWIW - I put Sachs OEM struts on my 95 855 about 2 1/2 years ago and they are still doing well. Not a performance strut, but they work fine for a daily driver. A long time ago, I put a Sachs performance suspension package on my Jetta GLI 16V. The package included lowered springs and stiffer Sachs struts/shocks. A little stiff, but they held up well.
