Where can I find a used am/fm, CD& Cassette Radio - SC-815 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon which I bought new that came equipped with a SC-815 radio. This unit has an AM/FM radio together with a CD and Cassette slot. I just called my Volvo dealer who confirmed the radio is no longer available from Volvo. The Part No. is # 36050149.

Does any one know where I could find a used one (that works)?

Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh

You might want to call some radio shops and ask if they can clean the cd player.

OR, just Google search using: car cd player cleaner

Best buy, Amazon, etc all have them.

I have a cassette adapter that goes into the tape part and has a plug I plug into my iphone. Sounds as good as the cd (even though mine only has cassette)

Klaus,

I never thought of that, and I know somewhere in my house there is a CD cleaner kit I purchased from Radio Shack. I called Radio Shack and they have a CD cleaner for $14.95. I pick it up and try it. If successful, it's lot cheaper than purchasing a used SC-815.

I have two Volvo radios, an SC-816 and an SC-901. I also have the amp that mounts under the console. All of these are Volvo branded and are plug and play for your car. Both radios have the proper anti-theft codes.

The SC-816 is AM/FM with CD & cassette plus it will handle a CD changer. I'm not sure of the difference between this and an SC-815, maybe color. Mine is sort of a dull charcoal.

The SC-901 was Volvo's premium upgrade in the '90s. It is AM/FM with cassette and a 3-CD cartridge. It will also handle a CD changer. It has an internal equalizer and other controls. (Google SC-901 and search on MatthewsVolvo.com for more information for this unit.) It requires an amp.

My amp is a Volvo unit designed to mount under the center console. I have the required bracket and harness. I also have the only bolt that isn't already on your car. (Search MatthewsVolvo for mounting instructions.) I believe this amp is 4x50 watts and is plug and play with any Volvo radio of this period.

PM me if you still need a radio.

David,

The SC-815 has a dark colored face, while the SC-816 has a light colored face plate. Thank you for offering your two radios. For the moment I'll hold off.

The SC-815 is hard to find. The SC-816 is a bit easier and might be in black to match the other dash componnents in the 850. 1998 was the beginning of grey colored plastics that lok out of place on the 850.

Good to know that you have operational radios.

Klaus,

I have two 850 wagons, both with SC-815 radios and a 1999 V70 AWD XC with a SC-816. The SC-815 is dark in color in comparison to the gray with the SC-816. I'm sure an SC-816 will fit, but the color will be off.

My radio started sounding poor and I got speakers from a wrecked 97. Sounds better. Best Buy has some after market units that might fit with a kit and give you navi and bluetooth. Deck speakers and door speakers are common size.

Ck out any of the volvo wrecking yards. Sweden Auto Warehouse in Sacramento has radio's. I've bought radio's from them a couple of times. 916 387 6892

The above is in Stuyvesant, NY, where ever that is.

What is wrong with your old unit? Not just a fuse?

EDIT: Don't forget, you will need a radio code!!!!

Klaus,

When I put a CD in, it skips like the CD is dirty. It isn't. I take the same CD and put in same SC-815 in my other '96 850 and it works perfectly. Sad that Volvo doesn't sell re-manufactured units. I guess my Volvo is getting old.
