XC70 vs XC60? Recommendatinos?

I am considering getting (yet another) Volvo (it will be our fifth, though not all at once). We now have an '04 XC90 (2.5T AWD) and two '98 V70's (one base and one AWD). I am thinking of replacing either the xc90 or one of the V70's with either a newer xc70 or an xc60. When I look over the details and options of each, on paper they look similar. Price, gas mileage, etc., all look pretty much the same. What would you recommend as the better of the two? Is one more reliable than the other, more comfortable to drive, less expensive to operate? Thanks!

Two summers ago we drove both an XC60 and an XC70 for about 100 miles each.

The 60 was a turbo - If you are in a hurry when you drive, definitely try this car. It produces full torque at 1500 RPM - just off idle, I had to lock it in first or second gear to drive around parking lots.

My wife and I thought it pitched around a lot and was always busy - down shifting, up shifting, and pitching forward at the least excuse. When one let off the gas to take a highway exit, it sometimes actually sped up. It had almost no engine braking in many situations

The 70 was a NA - its manners fit our style of driving - relaxed. We are both in our mid 6os and like to take road trips.

Both cars had what appeared to be almost the same interior with the 70 about an inch larger in most dimensions - the cargo areas were both very close to the same as our '96 855R.

Neither of us liked the tinted rear windows on the 60.

Instead of buying a 4 year old loaded car, we purchased anew base '12 XC70 with FWD and a 5 year wear and tear warranty for around 28K.

We are completely happy with this car

Thank you very much for the input. This is helpful. As you suggest, I would probably be wise to drive both.
