2004 XC90 new in family XC90

My wife just bought a 2004 XC90 AWD. It has the 2.5 turbo, and 5-speed automatic. Car has 85k miles on it. I'm hoping to learn the good bad and ugly about these cars. We've had several 240's and an S90, but this is a new model for us. I hope to learn what to watch for, pitfalls to avoid, etc. Thanks.

Your wife picked a good one. Use synthetic oils only and it will hold up nicely.

What weight Syn. for this vehicle. The cap says 5W30 but I'm reading guys saying they are using 10W30 . I live in Michigan, going into spring(I HOPE!) what do you think. 2004 XC90 AWD turbo 5

      Thanks,
      Ken

If I lived in Florida or Southern California and never left the state, 10W30 would be just fine. You live in a climate where it gets real cold and real hot, so read the manual and put in 5W30.

Actually, 0W30 or 0W40 in the real hot days would also work, but your oil changes should be annually with the synthetic (7500 miles). The zero weight might let some oil past the turbo seals, but that is a wive's tale.
