2004 s60 with leather seats. I spilled some water on the passenger seat so now I have a hard portion of the seat bottom, a hard "stain/trail". Any ideas on leather care to soften it back up or is it done?

Two things befor you give up:

Go to a leather shop, one that deals with horse saddles or shoes, and ask for advice. Remember, the leather is dyed and vigorous rubbing with a cleaner will wear off the color.

Get back on the Brickboard and let us know what they said!

Just got off the phone with a custom saddle shop here in SoCal. "nothing much you can do". I do have some Leatherique products from a few years ago that I might try. It probably can't hurt it any worse than it already is.

        Hard leather

I was afraid you would say that. Too bad I tossed the old skins from the swap I did last summer. The underside of the leather has cloth on it and I was wondering if soaking it in saddle oil would have made a difference. Kind of like making a baseball glove soft and pliable.

These seats take a beating from parking in the hot sun, especially the passenger side that gets little use.

Our '01 S40 was left with the sunroof open during a downpour by the previous owner. Apparently both front leather seats were soaked. After the storm, the owner (my niece) turned on the seat heaters to dry them. They have been as hard as rocks ever since.

An upholstery guy she spoke with about the rock hard leather told her that if she had let them dry slowly just with the doors open on a sunny/breezy day, they would have stayed soft. Who knows if that's true, but it's all I can offer.

We've tried Lexol to try to soften them up again, but it has done nothing.
