Oil separator job done, car starts and runs but idle sounds rough/lumpy 850 1994

Got my wagon put together after the oil separator job, now I have an uneven idle. I replaced several of the cracked vacuum elbows, have re-checked all the vacuum hoses and connections. I was going to clean the tips of the injectors before shoving them back in but forgot to do that. Any suggestions on how to track this gremlin?

I agree that pictures are of great help! the hard plastic tube that comes from the oil separator to the flame trap I switched several times its position and direction, and i am still not completely sure that is not installed backwards, it does not fit as well as i expected. But for now, it is connected on both ends and it shall stay like that. A picture would have saved many cusswords!

SUCCESS FINALLY! THANK YOU ALL! The uneven idle was due to me switching the two vacuum hoses that go to the EGR controller, so the thing was pulling exhaust gas even at idle. Swapped the hoses, the little wagon now purrs at idle.
I normally try to keep notes and diagrams of all the connections that i undo, and this time i got too confident and did not do it. One other recommendation, i have several boxes of old letter size envelopes after our company changed logos and address, and every small piece, bolt etc i remove goes into an enveolpe that gets identified properly. Then the assembly is truly a no brainer. Thank you all for your help!

Good find!

It also helps to take 'before removal' pictures.

I am comfortable with the intake seal (new) and it seating properly, although i did not use a torque wrench (that lower leftmost bolt is a real piece of work just to tighten, the only tool i could use for that was a a 1/4" ratchet with a long wobble extension).
But i did not use new injector seals! does one need new o-rings every time the injectors get yanked out? we are speaking of the lower orings right? the ones that fit into the intake manifold? I was going to test that by spraying a little water or WD40 around the seal to see if anything changed.

Because you pulled the injectors, make sure they are seated properly. I would use water before using dirty WD40. Some times the O rings twist and cause a leak. Did you pull the injectors from the top rail? You might just try pushing on each injector to verify that it is seated.

i will use a spray bottle with water this weekend to see if i can detect any improvement, one further question, are all the connections to the little vacuum manifold atop the throttle the same? is it basically just a manifold?

Do you mean the black plastic vacuum 'tree'? Yes, all of the branches are the same size. Also check the base of the tree for leakage, there is an O ring for a seal. And make sure the large hose on the top from the idle control motor is secure, as you did take that off.

and one further question still; when is the EGR open? should it be open on idle? I wirebrushed the threads on the EGR valve and used a little oil when i threaded the nut, and as i started the car and had it idling the oil started smoking from that connection, which tells me there was exhaust gas moving throught there

did you use new injector seals?

wondering if the air-intake manifold gasket is leaking. has to be put back on perfectly. did you use a torque wrench?
