Brake Fluid and other stuff... need advice C70 1998

Well, it's me again. Since I'm getting the new rotors in at the end of the week, I decided to get the car lowered as well. Get it all done in one go. Anyways, a couple of questions... What are good brake fluids out there? I went to Kragen Autoparts and saw Valvoline Syn Power brake fluid or something like that. Is that any good? Any recommendations?

Now to the lowering... I'm trying to decide between Konis and Bilsteins? Any major differences? Advantages or disadvantages? I can get Bilsteins for a really good deal, I don't know about the Konis.

Thanks for your input.

Mike H.

Almost any DOT 4 fluid will be fine for performance applications.

As to lowering, I have the same question as the other responder - you understand that the shocks, in and of themselves, will not lower the vehicle, don't you? To lower the vehicle you'll need to change out the springs - Eibach and H&R are good places to start. Be prepared for an increase in ride stiffness (spring rate). I'm running Eibach Sport springs with Koni Adjustable shocks and the ipd anti-sway bar. The ride is VERY stiff - uncomfortably so on rough pavement. On the other hand, they are great on the track and have done wonders for the handling of the car.

    Hope that helps.

      Steve,

Thanks for your input. In regards to the springs, I already have IPD springs on hand, but I might switch to H&R springs. I'm just trying to figure out which shocks most people use on this board. So far, I'm leaning towards Bilsteins.

If you are talking about the Koni adjustables, get those. They allow you to REALLY adjust the valving, as opposed to the pseudo-adjustable Ohlin's.

From what I've heard, Bilsteins are great to. But they won't lower the car as much as the Koni's will. I'm assuming you are using lowering springs to lower the car.

Because the Koni's are adjustable, you can pretty much make them pretty soft or pretty hard. As for the Bilsteins with their monotube design, they are pretty good at absorbing bumps while preventing brake dive/acceleration squat/cornering lean.

If you are going with the Koni non-adjustable, get ready for some MAJOR stiffness in the suspension. They are significantly stiffer in absorbing bumps in comparison to the Bilsteins.
