850 door locks 850

Lost my remote door unlock gadget for my '94 850 years ago. Now the driver side door cylinder does not turn, and the passenger side is starting to stick..so do i need to replace the lock cylinders? The auto locking still works. I thought of getting a replacement for remote unit, but now sure of the specs I need (like model or fcc number) anyway to find this out?

many thanks
mark

lue the key fob stopped work, so here is how to reprogramme the key fob.

    1. turn the key in barrel to position II 5 times quickly
    2. on 5th turn leave ignition on and press lock/unlock button on the remote
    3. on the 5th turn of the key the alarm light flashes and when the fob button is depressed the alarm light stays on.
    4. key fob has now been reprogrammed :)

Klause is right......this from the net.

thanks all. have tried a shot of lock lube into the lock but will try the white grease behind the cylinder. Saw some lock cylinders on ebay at cheap prices if needed.

there are a bunch right now on ebay for a 94 on ebay ranging from 9.00 to 30.00. I would get one in good condition, replace the battery and give it a go. I would imagine the key not turning is the result of corrosion in the door itself the silicone Klause suggested might free up the mechanism. Give your dealer a call with your vehicle vin number. a brand new key fob is about 100.00 from what I remember- would be well worth the expense.

I would first try a silicone spray inside the lock, use sparingly. Then remove the small triangular piece of plastic in the top of the door jam (creates access to the rear of the lock), and spray a little white lithium grease on the back of the lock and rod mechanism. Silicone can be used there also, but the grease lasts longer.

As for the remote, that is a gamble because you do not have a model number. Get one from Ebay or where ever, then turn the key to position II 5 times and leave it in position II. You will note that the red led on the dash will blink rapidly.

With the door closed, push the lock/unlock button, and wait for 10 seconds or till the led goes out. Then the remote should work.

Do a search to find the correct method, my memory isn't what it used to be.

you can get any remote unit and reprogam the car to the unit by turning the ignition key back and forth 10 times (i think) and depressing the lock button on the remote until the car recognizes the new remote. replacing the lock cyinders is also easy. just get the haynes manual for the care and find new cylinders on ebay or order at the dealer.

I can't answer you're question, but if you're desperate to get in the car with sticky door locks, you can unlock the trunk with the key and the doors should open too. Unless the trunk is sticking too.
