what stereo upgrade options exist? V70-XC70 01

Hi,

We are about to buy a 2001 T5 real soon, but I have to say that in my opinion, the stereo system is terrible. The sound quality should have been much better for a $40K car. It is boomy and unclear. Does anyone think that the problem is the electronics or the speakers or both?

So what are my options? I have not seen/heard the upgraded system that Volvo sells for $1000. Any first hand impressions? How about after market? Can I get "stadard" audio system components that would fit into the V70 dash? I mean, the built-in stereo seems pretty much part of the whole dash.

Any advice (soon) would be appreciated.
