... not that I'm looking to race. I don't pull up at a stoplight, look over, then put on the black leather driving gloves in a clear challenge to the other driver. But sometimes I wonder... I've got a performance car, it looks fast, I'm usually solo in my car, why no challengers? It seems every day when in high school driving a crappy station wagon hand-me-down I'd end up in some sort of drag race. Now... never.
I don't have kid's seats in my car. Hell I'm not even married. Could it be that my Volvo has four doors? But no, it's black, a T5, has a spoiler. Can't be the car.
Let's get one thing straight: I'm not looking to race. I value saftey (notice I'm posting in a Volvo forum, not a street racers' forum). My dragging days are (mostly) behind me. Just wondering why there's no challenges anymore.

You live in Seattle, eh? I live in Seattle as well, and have had many races down I-5 and on I-90. Ya just have to kinda get peoples attention.. like get behind them and then step on it and fly past em. Generally.. if they are in the mood, they'll follow and it creates a mini-race. I know its dangerous on a crowded freeway though.
But I've had plenty of lil races in Seattle.. hmm. I even won a fellow Volvo! It was a 98-00 V70 R.. from Oregon, and I think he was a Volvo enthusiast, but ... just couldn't pull ahead of my nose, and it broke off at around 100.
Its also kinda fun to go on a drive on I90 torward the pass, and just fly up there. :)

Maybe it isn't you at all, rather, it's them.
I'm more interested in the fine ladies that look my way.
I do 99% of my racing at "illegal" drag events every Friday and Saturday night during the summer. The rest of the time, I'm returning the smiles behind some Ray Bans.

Around here there aren't many racers, only ricers. I'm not really a big performance guy because I have a GLT.....AHHH!! I sure wish I had a turbo but oh well. Maybe I'll buy a s70 down the line anyways. But racing is fun on those Friday nights, except my car really doesn't haul that much ass. At least its a Volvo, and there ain't nothing wrong with that! :)

I live in Bettendorf, Iowa...if you live in the Midwest you might have heard of the Quad-Cities and Bettendorf is 1/4 of it...right on the Mississippi River. But you probably haven't. There are tons of ricers though on the Illinois side. Civics with neons all over, velvet interiors, 13" rims on extended axles...there is a Saturn SC2 with that, hehe. Its UGLY!

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the gammut is run. But there is a never ending supply of VERY fast and in most cases, very nice modified cars.
I regularly see 850/_70 models with 17" or even 18" rims, a couple exhausts here are there, and I have a number of friends in the 650hp range on RX-7s, 450hp on Talons, 450hp on M3s, 800hp on Supras, etc.
Every now and then, some of these guys go racing, and WOW! In general every Fri and Sat night, the average 1/4 times are in the low to mid 14's, with the fastest runs in the 11's and the slowest in the 17's.

I had a great season last year losing only one race to a modified older Audi. And I won around 50 races including Integra Type Rs with intake and exhaust (ever since, no Type R with less then intake, exhaust and chip will race this wagon at these meetings), Preludes with intake and exhaust (couldn't believe it and asked what I had done to me car, when I said bone stock, he shat himself), a 5.0 (claimed he made bad shifts even though we had 3 runs which I won), older gen RX-7s (blew a rad hose at the end of the race), came close to losing to a Sunfire with intake, exhaust and chip (I think he had more then that though, becuase his engine made a whistling sound), utterly destroyed a Hyundai with exhaust and a HUGE spoiler, dusted an STS with suspension and a borla or corsa (can't remember) exhaust, and many more.
I know a lot of people are gunning for me this season. So I can't go back with the same performance. So I promised, no racing until after exams, which by then means, the 3" stainless steel downpipe, 3" stainless steel race cat, 2.5" stainless steel cat-back with a single stainless steel rear mount muffler, open element modified air intake, PES-chip, waste gate adjustment and moving of horns. A guy with a 3" complete system pulled 255hp at the wheels, with an 850 with an otherwise similar set-up. 255hp at the wheels shuld weigh in at around 300hp at the engine. I am going with the 2.5" because I'd rather have a little more low end power at the sacrifice of high end outright power.
My best 1/4 last year was 15.1, and I hope to pull a high 13 with these mods.

I've had some fun at the local street races here in MD They tend to get out of control when the weather gets warm, there's usually a good 400-500 people and anywhere from 150-200 cars. There was even an article on the front page of the Washington Post about the street races here. You will see an endless amount of honda's and slow rice burners, but you see alot of heavily modded cars, lots of 11 and 12 sec cars and you see some really modded 9 and 10 sec eclipe's, and Supra's and old big block cars's. On a rare occasion i've seen Viper's, Porsche's and even a Ferrari 512TR. I've had numerous runs out there beating several modded eclipses, mustangs, a turbo civic and and an M3. What makes racing a volvo so much fun is the thought makes people laugh. The best part is proving the non belivers wrong, I've had many people come up to me and say holy sh*t volvo's can be that fast? I like driving a car that has class and can hold its own against the alot of cars on the road, that's the reason why I bought my 850. Perhaps one day people will realize that fast volvo's aren't a joke.
