Headlight Protection S80 2001

I recently had a real bad experience with my 2000 S80T6. A truck driving in front of me kicked up some gravel and the lens on my headlight and foglight on one side of the car broke. The dealer charged me $750 to repair these!! Is there any kind of protective shield that can be put on the lights? I heard something about mylar, but there was some problem with this.

    Re: Headlight Protection S80 2001

Just a follow up on my headlight disaster. After getting some great input from this forum I got the mylar headlight protection kit from X-Pel™. I applied the kit on my S80 this weekend and it went on without problems. The fit was perfect, you can hardly see the film on the headlight and it included $1000 insurance on headlight damage. Will just have to see how it stands up over time.

Volvo has a a cover kit listed for your car in the accessory catalogs. In case your dealer is unable to find it , the part number is 9488978 and list price is only $40.83.

In case anyone is interested, there is also a kit for the 2000 S40 under part number 8641211 that have the same price. As yet, none are available in the U.S. for the S60.

    Re: Headlight Protection S80 2001

I have the acrylic covers from IPD on my S40 and they work and look great. Just kind of waiting to see how they stand up to a deer hit. I tried the mylar film on my foglights but the mylar that IPD is actually TOO thick. The foglights have a slight curve to the lens and the mylar kept coming loose over the curve. I tried heating with a heat gun but the mylar seems to always straighten out again. I'll have to try some cheap film one of these days.

Log on to www.saabnet.com. One the the sponsors sells a protective film- you may have to poke around a bit to find it. I've ordered some, but haven't gotten it yet. Sounds good

    yes there is S80 2001

There is a protective plastic-type adhesive film you can apply over your headlights that will *help* protect against stone chips and cracks. That said, I'm not sure of brand names or where you could check to find anything pre-cut for your car. Bavarian Autosport magazine sells the film, and I think it's pre-cut for BMW lenses. To answer your question, YES, there is something out there. Tends to yellow over time, but it's cheaper to peel off yellowed film than pay for new lenses.
