Hey folks, at what point did volvo move to the magnetic sensor throttle body? Is 2002 xc70 a safe year?

And the Haldex, is 2002 known to be a decent year? I seem to recall something about failing bevel gears. I have a 2003 and I think both issues are fine for me (throttle body for sure since I cleaned it and it is not the nasty potentiometer type).

My ex has her eyes on a 2002 and I'm wary of those 2 issues. If that's not a problem then she might get it.

Our '04 V70 had the potentiometer type throttle controller. The first time it failed cleaning the contacts got it working again. The second time the plastic gears were shot.

Not sure if the ETM was upgraded in 2002 or some time during the 2002 model. The 02 still has the non-haldex awd system, last year. The bevel gear is still the same for all years and does need a periodic flushing.

Where would the bevel gear be? It's not the rear diff right? It's up front behind the engine I assume and it's part of the "transfer" case AWD unit or separate?

DId anyone ever figure out a fix for the sensor problem on the throttle?

Bevel gear = transfer box. Just a 90 degree turn for the prop shaft rotation. There is no drain plug, so folks have been drilling out the bottom bolt hole to make one.

Most of the yellow label ETM boxes are pretty good. Current problems are mostly dirty throttle bodies.

1, awd includes bevel gear and the 2002 is not Haldex
2, the newer replacement ETM (yellow label) is better than before (did they make a non pot version for retrofit?).
