Seat memory function V70-XC70 2001

I'm having a problem with the seat memory function that my dealer has so far been unable to resolve. It usually happens like this: Drver #1 using key #1 drives the car and locks it with Key #1; the seat is set for Driver #1. The car is unlocked with Key #1 and is manually put into position #2 so driver #2 can drive car still using Key #1. The car is parked for the night with the seat still in position #2 but is not locked. The next morning Driver #1 using Key #1 manually moves seat back to Position #1 and drives car using Key #1. The car is parked with the seat in Position #1 and is locked using Key #1. When the car is unlocked with Key #1 and the door opened, the seat moves to position #2 automatically. In at least one case this happened even though the car had been driven using Key #1 more than 2 times with no readjustment of the seat. It seems as though the seat is recalling something rom its "long term memory." Incidentally, the lights temporarily refused to flash when locking the doors with Key #1. The locks worked but no flash. This resolved itself after about 12 locking / unlocking cycles. I sure hope I'm not not looking at elecýronic spooks. I haven,t had this much fun since I gave up my TR-4 years ago. Thanks for tolerating such a long post.

Re: Seat memory function V70-XC70 2001

    Hi Steve -

I had the same problem, exactly. I'm told that you MUST unlock the car with the remote so the computer is alert that you might change the seat. If you leave the car unlocked in the garage (and who doesn't?) then when you go to start it the next time, the computer isn't watching out for a seat adjustment. So the next time you do lock/unlock with the remote, it will remember the last time you did that, not the last time you moved the seat. It's all very confusing, and it doesn't work that way in real life, I've found.

There is a setting procedure that I got from a Field Service Tech, and it seems to have fixed my problem, for some unkown reason. Give this a shot. The following are his words, not mine:

-Begin the test with the car in the LOCKED position (locked for at least 1 minute).

    REMOTE 1:

1-Unlock car with remote and open the driver’s door. (By unlocking the car

with the remote, CEM will be alert to record any changes to seat position

    before step 4).

    2-Turn Ignition to position II.

3-Adjust Driver’s seat to desired position.

4-Turn ignition to position “0” and take key out. (This is the step in which

    the actual programming takes place.)

5-From outside, LOCK car with REMOTE 1.

6-WAIT 1 MINUTE before setting next remote.

    REMOTE 2:

Follow the same procedure as above, now with REMOTE 2.

If you have a third remote, follow the same procedure with R/3

It’s very important to wait 1 MINUTE in between settings

    TESTING REMOTES AFTER SETTINGS:

-REMOTE 1: Unlock car with remote and open the driver’s door, the seat will

move to preset position R1. After test, lock car with the same remote.

-REMOTES 2 and/or 3: Do the same as above for these remotes as needed.

    SUMMARY:

When unlocking the car with any of the remotes and the seat is adjusted

    manually or with seat memory buttons while the key is in the position II;

the CEM will memorize the last position that the seat was moved to, provided

that the ignition was turned to “0” and out of the ignition and the required

elapsed time has gone by. The next time this remote is use to unlock the

car, CEM will send a message to PSM to move seat to the memorized position.

The system is base in a logical sequence of events and works fine in the

real world situations (i.e. Husband and wife driving with 2 different

    remotes.)

    Good luck,

    Darell

      Thanks Darell,

I'll give this a try this evening.

Re: Seat memory function V70-XC70 2001

I've been pulling my hair out over this for 8 months now. My seats simply do not work consistently. The only way to be assured that they work, is to always remotely lock the car, and always remotely unlock when you drive it again. If you leave the car unlocked, like I do, they memory feature SOMETIMES works (about 20% of the time in my estimation) and mostly does NOT work. If it was at least consistent, I'd be a lot happier.

        - Darell

Re: Seat memory function V70-XC70 2001

    Steve,

As per V70 manual (as far as I remember it) the seat position memory has nothing to do with a _key_ but has to do with _remote opener_ - trinket.

Besides buttons on the seat (which didn't bother you in this case,

did they ? ;-) ) the only "seat memory feature" enabled is described

like this: "If you unlock the car with the _remote_ (#1), the driver seat

(and side mirrors ?) will move themselves to the position they were at

last time you lock the car with this particular remote#1."

Since remotes (their frequencies) are distinct, this feature is very

helpful when more than one person driving same car. If not - it could

be disabled at dealership via reprogramming.

Closing but not locking the car (or locking it manually or anyhow else

but not via remote) is not supposed to have any effect on

    seat position memory.

The keys are also supposed to be distinct frequencywise, but this is

    rather for immobiliser programming.

To all : correct me if I'm wrong... I'm not 100% sure.

In my case it works exactly this way. ;-)

    Yours,

    Andrey M. V70/T5/01

      Thanks Andrey,

I should have been more specific and said remote rather than key. I don't think I've ever actually used the key to unlock the car, but always rely on the remote and hence my frustration.

      Steve
