Motor Mounts 850 93

Yo! Anyone got any true truths about motor mounts for the '93 850GLT? I've got a clunk at any speed below 45 which one dealer said is motor mounts, and two others said isn't.

I see the top mount has some slop, and might actually agree that it needs replaced. I have an extensive history building and racing Mopars (forgive me?) in the 1968 - 1974 era. We didn't need to replace motor mounts back then. Mopar ruled...!

Do Volvo motor mounts destroy themselves at an early age? Which of them are the most likely to need replaced? Is this someone who knows his way around an engine compartment can handle? In an unheated garage with al the SAE and metric tools?

Help!

    I have a '95 855T, and just had the motor mounts replaced. No warning as far as I could tell. My trusted independent mechanic noticed they had cracked, when fixing an oil leak. The upper mount fails regularly. IPD sells a replacement which I found works well. Good luck.

    The upper motor-mount has a pretty high failure rate.

    Check this site for a lot of info and photos on common Volvo

      Ray, I didn't see any info from Bay 13 on motor mounts. Did I miss it? THanks.

        I thought it was there but it is not. The section on replacing

        a timing belt shows the passenger side lower motor mount labelled

        in one of the photos. I recall noticing that before ("Oh, so that's

        where it is.") and that is what I must have been thinking of. Sorry.

    I have a 93 850 that I bought new. Much to my dismay, I have had to replace the motor mounts twice during its 113000 mile life. First time they broke in two, this time they cracked. One of the many annoying expenses with this car...

      How do you know when it needs replacement?
