Drive Belt replacement interval? I made my belt tool V70-XC70 98

Hi,

I don't drive much and do equal mixture of city and highway.

Looked at the drive belt and looks OK. The question is from all of you:

At what approximately what interval does the belt go bad (20K, 30K, 40K)

CN

1998 V70 16K

PS: I made a belt tool using a one-inch waterpipe drain plug with 3/4-inch square head that I shaved down to 5/8 squarehead.

The 5/8 squarehead fits perfectly into the belt tensioner.

    Volvo says 60K for accessory belt. But,with 16K on a 98 I

suspect you need to service based on time, not milage. I'm

in a similar situation but have never really been able to easily

determine amount of time for some service items. i.e. 54K on my

    wife's 95 and won't hit 70K til 2003 -- when should timing belt

be replaced? (Normally at 70K but mabe 8-9 years is too long).

      Ray

At the shop I recommend that the T-belt be replaced when the 850 is in it's 6th year of service, that seems to be when inspection shows some of the cords begining to show and sometimes the little cracks begin show up.
