CEL coincidence?

My CEL light has been on for some time, I had a faulty exhaust and just finally had it replaced. After replacement the light did not go out. even after disconnecting Bat. I had not tested the code, but last night I decided to change my oil. next morning light goes out and has stayed out. I know the two are not conected, but it just seems odd.

    If you don't manually clear the fault code to extinguish the CEL, it can sometimes take up to about 100 miles of driving to clear it.

      On another note, after switching my cat, my MPG went from 20 to 26

        Suggestion: The next time you get a CEL, go to an autoparts store and get the code(s) read. You might have just had a 'loose' gas cap error.

        Getting better mpg is a given, the O2 sensors shut down any meaningful fuel/air mixture and it is a wonder you seren't getting 16mpg or less.
