850 - strange noise 850 1995

Could use some help diagnosing a strange noise in my car. When moving off from a stop, and particularly when turning, I hear a groan or creaking type noise. Not too loud. Seems most noticable when the car is cold. I can duplicate the noise by pushing down on the front of the car behind the grill.

Let me add that I recently replaced the lower front engine mount. It looks like I also need an upper engine torque mount. Struts and spring seats have been replaced too.

Question: Could this be one of those other hydraulic engine mounts that don't normally don't go bad?

Thoughts? Thanks for any help!

Hi Bill and Klaus,

The upper mount does look worse than before. I had planned on replacing it but knew that the lower should be done first. Will replace it and check around elsewhere as suggested.

Thx for the advice!

The hydraulic mounts can and do go bad with age, but they are not user friendly to replace. You need to do more than just push down on the radiator; try each front corner because one of the rubber strut mounts might not have been torqued down properly.

Of course, change the top mount first.

Hi Jim,

If that top engine mount is toast, just replace it and see if that
solves the noise problem.

Cheers, Bill
