Changing/checking coolant S80 1999

Where is the (*&^*&^%^&%&* radiator cap on my 99 S80 T6? I also want to know how to drain and refill the engine coolant. I know my way around vehicles pretty well but this one has got me stumped. Can't find a motor manual yet and Volvo wants my first born for one. Did a search too.

Re: Changing/checking coolant S80 1999

The cap you are looking for is on the "over flow bottle" it's green and on the passenger side of the car, just in back of the power steering res. To drain everything in the system, there is a pet-cock on the bottom of the radiator and one on the back of the engine, open them and drain the coolant. You will have to take down the splash pan, and the cover just in front of it as well. I changed the radiator on one the other day and I had to add coolant 4 times, it burps a lot.

Re: Changing/checking coolant S80 1999

Rich, Thanks for the reply. I know where the overflow tank is that you are talking about. Does this also function as the cap to the tank? I want to visually check the fluid level because we had a "low coolant" warning light come on mommentarily and I wanted to check to make sure there was enough in it. The coolant level is in the proper place on the overflow tank, so should I assume it is at the right level?

That green cap is your access to the coolant system, the bottle also contains a float on the inside that often sticks and causes the light to come on in the DIM (drivers information module). One other source is the connection for the float sensor, sometimes the pins on the connector are not connected correctly, one maybe backed out and not making good connection. Take the cap off your bottle and with a small screw driver see if you can push the float up and down and get the light to go out, if not you may need to have the bottle replaced.
