XC60? V70-XC70

While my 2009 was in for an oil change (I am concerned that they said the oil was LOW...where did it go?), I had a 2013 XC60 loaner. Dealer said it is the same engine as mine...if so, why was it so 'spirited'? Very quick and responsive...no turbo.

    Perform this experiment -

After a drive of 1/2 hour or more, wait 15 minutes (as is mentioned in your owner's manual I think) then check your oil level. - I think that it will be low - then -

Wait overnight and check your oil again - I think that it will be OK - then -

Check your oil after two or three days of non-use - I think it will be high.

    HUH????

This is how my 2012 acts,

I was told by a service writer that the 3.2 has an odd drain system that retains some oil in the upper engine for better start-up lubrication - eventually it drains out.

At the same dealer, the tech who serviced my car said the oil was low when he changed it!

This was just before my vacation - I intend to take this up with Volvo next week. I'll let you know.

BTW - how was your oil level the last time you checked it?

Volvo has been tweaking the transmission software continuously, which I suspect to be most of what you are feeling. They also tweaked the engine internals in 2010 (I think) but that only amounted to a 5hp gain and a little more fuel efficiency.
