Q: What to be looking for in a 2004, XC-70... V70-XC70

All,

I'm currently looking at a 2004, XC70, with 163,000 miles on it. It is a 3 owner and does have a carfax report. It appears to NOT have been in any accident.

Have no idea of the maintenance history, and no idea if anything has been done with the AWD system.

With that said, what should I be looking for that would or should discourage me from purchasing it? Its been sitting in this car lot since July 31, and they've reduced the price at least once while I've been watching it. Currently at about $4600. I think this is still too high, but what do I know.

Any and all thoughts on this potential or NOT purchase are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Fine print: "Price excludes $399.00 processing fee"

The tires appear to be on thin treads, deduct $600 for new ones that will last the winter. Because there is no maint history, deduct as much as you can because the Haldex oil/filter needs to be changed as will antifreeze, brake fluid, PS fluid (Pentosin), and possibly ATF - check color.

Check out the AC. Before starting the engine, move the temps to 68F on both sides, move the key to position II and set the ECC to 'auto' and the AC to "on", then start the engine. It should blow cold within 60 seconds. After or during a test drive when the engine temp is up, move both of the temps to 80F and see if there is heat at the floor. Always keep the ECC in auto mode.

Ding it for excessive mileage. I saw a nice 2003 XC in southern New Hampshire for $3K and just over 100K miles.
