Tires.... C70 1998

Thanks for some of the answers guys.

I will throw the question out here once again...

Looking into getting new summer tires for my 1998 C70 and have heard some good things on the Bridgestone RE730.

Any suggestions...thoughts...ideas ???

Thanks

    Re: Tires.... C70 1999

I currently have 3000 miles on my 730s. No complaints at all so far. I would rate them higher than the stock Pirellis 6000 and 7000 (w/r/t handling, ride, noise, durability and price). I purchased mine from tirerack for about 140-145 a piece (including shipping) and then had Big-0 install (BIG-O charged about $60 to install). Not sure if I would do this again because there is some confusion as to whether BIG-O will stand by the tire since they didn't sell it to me. They also mentioned that they probably wouldn't do it again.

If you can pick them up at CostCo for $150 installed. That should be a great deal in my book.

    good luck

    Re: Tires.... C70 1998

    I have 205/55 16 730s on my T5. They do have a slightly

harsher ride then the OEM Michelins (you will get a few more

bumps and rattles). They do handle very well: I've taken

a right turn, testing the limits, so fast I was thrown against

the door. Now I know the down-side of leather seating :)

One of the tires I had was bad. When placed on a Hunter DSP

9700 balancer (they call it a "Vibration COntrol System -- see

    http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/product.htm) it showed there

was a problem with the tire (it would blance fine but this tool

can place a 700 lb load on the tire to simulate driving and

that showed the problem). But, the shop that did this test

for me (I had some high speed vibration which is why I took it

in) told me problems with Bridgestones are very rare.

At first, I did not like the 730s due to the harsher ride. Either

I got used to it or they softned up a bit since I am now very

    happy with them.

    Re: Tires.... C70 1998

I'm currently running a set of 215-45-17's Re730's on my 850. I've been happy with them. They ride well, very little road noise at 80mph. The 730's have good grip, and take the corners well. I bought them from the local Costco, they were around a good deal at $150 each installed. hope this helps

I'm currently running Sumitomo HTRZIIs. No problems so far after 15K although I did notice that the road noise is a little louder than before. Hope this helps.

    Re: Tires.... C70 1998

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45/17, and they're great. Excellent traction, wet and dry, excellent cornering, and mileage is reasonable 12 to 15,000 miles. (Standard for high performance tires.) Two problems : they cost about $259-$290, and extremely poor snow traction.

    Good luck.
