ECC vent motors 850

What a job! At least 3 of my ECC vent motors are messed up. I cleaned one of them - floor/defrost - of dried grease and also fixed the plastic connector part of the flapper.

QUESTION:

How does one position the damper motor and damper flaps? I will have to run the program to allow the ECC unit to 'learn' the position of the newly refreshed motors, but I have no idea how the motor and the damper are supposed to line up. Damper closed, open, or in the middle. Same for the motor.

Any advice is good. Because these things are so hard to get off and back on, I would like to only do it once more!!!

Thanks,

BTW, this is also posted on Matthewsvolvo site.

    ECC vent motors 850

It’s been a while since I fixed mine, but this is how I positioned my motor and damper flaps. I measured the resistance between pins 1 & 3 on the motor. That reading will be between 0-12000 ohms. I then moved the motor until the reading is about 6000 ohms. Now with the motor half way, I installed it back in the car moving the flap to its mid point. I hope this helps.

ECC vent motors - resolved 850

      No more blinking lights!!!!

It was not an electrical problem as suggested by the multiple error codes. All 4 damper motors were maxed out in their position or the vent was jammed.

Today I removed all 4 motors, one at a time, placed the motor in the middle of the travel range after cleaning out the grease. Then put them back on the air unit making sure the baffles were also in the middle of their range of travel.

I put the ECC in Mode 4 and keyed in 9-9-9, selected Auto for the vent position, put the fan in a run position and started the engine. After taking a 2 mile run above 20mph and letting the car sit with the key in position I for two minutes, the lights were out on restart - NO CODES.

Someone else went through the ECC before, a screw was missing on the passenger vent motor.

ECC vent motors - position sensor open circuit? 850

Thanks, that's my plan except for the driver's dash vent where I cannot hold the flap at 50%... I will try though.

I first have to find out why the position sensor ground wire is not grounded. To all 4 vent motors!
