Oil leaking off turbo body S70 1998

I noticed oil spots on my floor, and the bottom the my HPT is wet with oil. I can see the hose clamp on the approximately 1-1/2" black plastic connection out the center towards the driver's side is damp as well.

I found one blog that says "oil spots aren't uncommon", saw several people with the same complaint even to the detail of the dampness on the hose clamp, and I do remember my '95 850 HPT did this as well. I found reference to different things to check for clogs. While "normal" I'd like to know what the possible causes are though and clear any blockages if I have them.

Could my turbo be on its way to failure, or is this more likely a clog? Do I have a "flame trap" on a HPT? How many connections/locations should I check? I cleaned my oil return line once on the 850, but I thought that leaked at the seal where it enters the crankcase. There is no oil anywhere on the return line. It is real tight around the turbo, and I don't relish the idea of randomly attempting to remove connections. Any advice would be great. It is possible just diving in and whacking away is necessary, and a step by step doesn't exist. Thanks.

I should point out that in the last 10,000 miles the PO replaced many oil hoses and reversed the air flow, and probably had everything off the turbo. There has been synthetic oil used since then.

Do you mean the air intake hose at the turbo? There will be only a little bit of oil in that section, if any. Most of the oil consumption by the turbo is due to the output oil seal weeping a bit and causing oil vapors to collect at the bottom of the intercooler.

The intake air hose has a PTC nipple (with electrical connection) that changes flow of crankcase pressure when the turbo is at boost. This nipple can and should be cleaned every 100K or so. It gets carbonned up badly and the PTC can no longer close. A pain to clean as it means the removal of the intake pipe just to be able to see it. I used a very small screw driver and carb cleaner.

Also check the vacuum hoses in that location, they should be clamped.
