Poor fit of IPD/TME Strut brace S70 2000

I just installed the IPD/TME strut brace on my 2000 S70 GLT. I found the fit to be less than satisfactory. The IPD instructions to deal with the fuse box on the driver's side do not work for my car. So I installed the strut brace base plate over the fuse box bracket. Naturally, the fuse box cannot be opened in this state. Also, the base plate does not fit flush with this arrangement. Further, there is a bracket on the passengers side that is welded to the strut tower that prevents the base plat from fitting flush here as well.

Anyone else run into this problem and what did you do about it.I just "made it fit"

In addition the instruction state the car should be jacked up under the engine cross-member to preload the brace. Anyone trying this should get the car up on ramps first so you can actually fit the jack underneath it.

BTW on my 240, the IPD bar fit perfectly.

Thanks,

Ted

Re: Poor fit of IPD/TME Strut brace - Problem solved S70 2000

Problem solved. I reinstalled so that the bar was offset closer to the firewall and everything fit perfectly. The instructions led me to believe that it should be the other way, but this was not the case.

BTW, the brace makes a very noticeable difference in handling. The car has more of an 'on-rails' feel. When approaching "the limit" the car feels more planted. On winding high speed roads, less steering input in needed.

Re: Poor fit of IPD/TME Strut brace - Problem solved S70 2000

I am thinking about getting one for my 850. Question- When jacking the car up, what kind of jack did you use, where did you jack from and did you use just one or two? Thanks.

Re: Poor fit of IPD/TME Strut brace - Problem solved S70 2000

I used a heavy duty floor jack. I jacked it up using the rear engine cross-member using a block of wood between the jack and the car. That's the location where I jack up my 240 and seemed to work fine. I had to put the car up ramps first to make room for the jack and block of wood.

The more recommended location to jack up the front is the front engine cross member just ahead of the oil pan. This didn't appear so solid to me, but apparently it's the place. If you jack here, you may not need to put the car on ramps first. Depends on your jack and the wood.

Re: Poor fit of IPD/TME Strut brace - Problem solved S70 2000

Wayne,

I just did the mod to my car about 2 mo. ago and had zero problems.

I used a 2ton floor jack at the main crossmember located just behind the radiator shroud.

Great improvement in handeling. Best mod, for the money, I have done so far.
