Clunking noise S70 1998

I am leasing a pre owned volvo certified S70. Sometime while I am driving very slow and step on the gas suddenly I hear like a clunking noise. Sometimes when I am coming to stop and the tranmission is down shifting, I also feel the clunking or a sensation that something is loose (or knocking) in the front drivetrain. A friend and me have checked underneath the car and everything appear to be secured. We even changed the top engine torque bushing point which was cracked. Very easy and inexpensive by the way! Any other suggestion, it is not a major problem, but I do not want it to become one if I can help it!

    Re: Clunking noise S70 1998

    Jerry,

Here's a thought. I had a clunking noise that I thought was coming from the sway-bar bushing per info provided by Charles Linden.

However, at my 40K service, my mechinic said that the bushings were fine. Instead he repacked the grease in the CV joints.

Problem solved--at least for now. I asked him if this means that the CV joints are going. He said no, just needed a repack.

    Good luck.

    Bryan

Good to hear you got it fixed. Not the sway bar bushings though. A common place is the upper suspension bushings.

        Charles,

Sorry, I misunderstood. I hope Mike checked the upper suspension bushings as well. They're probably OK since the noise has stopped.

        Thanks again,

        Bryan
