Hello,

I started to hear popping noise coming from the left front wheel area of my

2000 S40. The noise is often heard when I drive over a small bump and turning right only (at low speed, such as going up a small ramp into my drive way).

I took it to the local dealer and they said they checked everything but found nothing wrong at all. As this problem does not always happen, I was not able to reproduce it to the mechanic.

Did anybody experience the same problem? Any idea what could be wrong and what fixes are needed? Thanks for your info.

I have the same problem with my 97 S40 (sport pack), as with yours it is only when turning right at low speeds or when pulling away paricularly when on a slight incline.

So far my dealer has replaced the antiroll bar bushes (again) and the links between the antiroll bar and the front struts, but it remains the same (or worse) than ever.

It is going to another dealer next week as I have given up on the last one, if they cure it i'll post another reply. They seem to think it could be an engine mounting allowing the block to knock against something - I'm not so sure.

A non franchised dealer has suggested that it is a failed strut with some side to side movement in it, and another garage has declined to take it on a trade in until it is repaired - so one way or another it'll have to be fixed.

I have the EXACT same problem with my V40, and I have yet to find any solution. Neither my dealer nor I could reproduce the popping noise. It happens about once or twice a week now... I'm hoppong to change out the shocks and springs with an aftermarket setup anyway, and I imagine the sound will dissappear.

I have also got that popping noise in my front suspension I went to many dealers and repair shops only for them to tell me that its because of my aftermarket springs. Did the dealer tell you anything else than I dont hear that noise?? But even with after market springs and shocks my car still has that pooping noise problem.
