Squeeky V70R V70-XC70 1998

Ok, I know that Volvo's are famous for their squeeks. But... in the back right side of the car is a particularly annoying whimper. At first I thought it was the tail gate molding. It was indeed loose, but after fixing it, the squeek is alive and well. I'm now guessing it is the back seat. When folded down the squeek seems to quiet. Anyone know how to fix this?

thanx

Geoff

Please, no "just keep the seat down."s

The site link below has a post for lubrication of the vechicle, one of the pictures shows how and what to do to get rid of the chirping noise from the right rear seat latch.

This noise almost drove me crazy. Same thing - no noise with back seat down. The first three times I brought it in the dealer thought it was in the tailgate, although I insisted it was the seat back. Turns out there is a technical bulletin on this - 85-820. It is the rear seat latch. It is a metal to metal contact, therefore, the maddening sqeak. The dealer instaled a rear seat latch buffer and there has been no squeak since. That was over two years ago.

I did isolate my chirping down to the right rear seat latch. A little silicon spray took care of it (at least for the last 6 weeks).

Thanks Chris (and Geoff for starting the thread).

I had the same type of annoying squeak coming from the rear/passenger side. First I lowered the seat and sure enough, the squeak was gone so I tried you silicon spray suggestion and now the squeak is gone. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Keep the helpful hints coming (I thought about posting a question about this before but I thought it was stupid and I was just being overly picky - turns out that I'm not the only one who felt that this was annoying)

      Thanks again,

      Mike

    Re: Squeeky V70R V70-XC70 1998

Is it is high pitched little squeak?

I had this one little high pitched squeak and I couldn't figure it out. I thought it was the floor board or the interior panels

What it ended up being is the lug wrench rubbing on the space saver. As the car went over bumps, the lug wrench would rub on the tire and cause the squeaking.

Could be the problem, it was for me.
