Failed Missouri emissions test.
Looking for a cheaper solution than the dealer.

Bill,
Tapsa is correct. What are the codes the inspection place returned? Was the Check Engine Light on? A simple scanner will also show you the codes, they can be borrowed at most autoparts stores.

Make friends with a local junk yard. A used OEM cat is better than the aftermarket versions, some of which do a poor job of cleaning the exhaust and allowing the O2 sensors to turn on the CEL.

Hi,
are You sure it's the catalytic convertor? sometimes the o2 sensor is dirty and reacts too slowly giving bad readings in the end.
once I had a tolerant inspector warming the engine long enough to get good reading. there after I cleaned the o2 sensor and got good readings faster, the 850/1994 is still with original cat.
