Spoiler install - 850/S70

The 'new' trunk lid is in place and working properly. The rod to connect the lock was a different story and brought out a lot of 4 letter words.

The spoiler is being swapped. Before I put it on, IS IT GLUED DOWN or is that black rubber stuff just for vibration? It came off too easy to be 2 sided tape, but the car is a 1996 and could have dried out?

The spoilers used the double sided black tape!!!

The original Volvo spoilers have a metal clip that is attach from the sides.
The aftermarket stuff, you have to drill some holes plus the tape.

Spoiler install - 850/S70

It appears that the double sided tape ONLY comes with a new spoiler. Borton Volvo does not have a parts list for the tape only.

Looking for suggestions... It has to be thick and water/weather proof.

Thanks

3M makes a good tape and you can find it at any auto parts store. Most guys used it for moldings!!!

That extreme tape might work. I will look for it and see how thick it is. Much cheaper than the dealer "kit".

Spoiler brake light - 850/S70

This gets more fun by the hour! Comparing the JY version of the spoiler brake light and the current car, the rubber and the lightbulbs needed to come off - just in case. The JY spoiler came apart nicely, some of the bulbs had been replaced. Remember, the JY spoiler was cracked badly on the left side of the wing, which is why it is being swapped.

The current car was different, of course. The center T20 was totally rusted and snapped when trying to get it out. Only the 1mm core of the screw was not rusted. It is not possible to get the center nut out without damaging the wing, besides I cannot tell the difference between the rusty screw and the rusty brass screwholder imbedded in the ABS.

So, I will swap the rubber gasket and lense. Check the 6 bulbs for continuity and keep the 'good' bulbs. Screw the two end T20s inplace and cover the center hole with clear caulk to keep water out(or glue a screw cap in it's rightful place). I guess a note to the next owner will be required.

This is an OEM spoiler and I have the mounting brackets. I have some double sided carpet tape, it is fiberglass reinforced but I don't know if it is water proof. Quite thin but white, no big deal as the car is white. Just thinking down the road to the MN winters.

I have to wash and wax the trunk before I put the spoiler on, along with clear plastic tape to keep the mounting brackets from scratching the paint.

Hola,

Take some pictures, I'll like to see the project. I bought an OEM spoiler for the T5 but have not install it, it needs to be painted first!!!
