V-50 AC coming and going V50

The AC on my 2007 V50 (103,000 miles) has become intermittent. It blows cold and then it stops and then it blows cold, etc., etc. Sometimes if I turn it off for a few moments and then back on it blows cold again. Is this a sign of needing a recharge of the "freon" (the name fails me) or is this indicative of more serious problems?

It is not unusual for the compressor to "short cycle" when it has a low charge of refrigerant. R134A in your case.

Recharge kits are available at most discount auto parts stores and are pretty simple to use if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.

If it blows cold at all, it does not need more R134a. If the compressor has been running for a while and it is very hot out when it quits, check the compressor clutch plate. It may be in need of a shim if the clutch gap is larger than .028 or so.

The bread clips will not work in your model, just make shims made of metal. Cut to fit and glued in place should work for several years.
