Do I need to replace ETM? S60 2001

I purchased my son's wrecked 2001 S60, located a front clip for it, and having it repaired next week. This car had the software upgrade several years ago to solve an ETM issue. To my knowledge, the actual ETM has never been replaced, just the software upgrade. It has 160,000 miles on it. Do I need to have the ETM replaced to make this car dependable or has some other method been developed to solve the ETM issues?

The really bad ETMs were 1999-2000. If yours has a yellow tag then it is probably good. Never replace an ETM, instead use XemodeX.com

XemodeX.com says it's pre-loaded with software. Does that mean that I don't
have to go to the dealer to have any thing loaded?

Correct, dealer is completely bypassed. If you have the ability for car down time, send them yours and let them 'update' it. That also gives you time to clean the throttle body, which it needs by now.
