low engine temp on gauge; just replaced thermostat V70-XC70 1999

Folks:

I have just replaced my thermostat on our 1999 xc70 because the temp gauge was reading very low temps. Nothing has changed now with the new thermostat. I was also loosing some anti-freeze before the repair.

Water pump?

Thanks?

It could be the ECT sensor, just below the thermostat. If the pump is failing, the temp gauge should go up because of the slow circulation.

my thermostat does not have the bleeder hole, should I drill one into it?

How should the hoses feel with car running, full of liquid or not?...say the hose from thermostat to radiator?

Is there a way to check the temp gauge?

      Thanks
      Christian

If the thermostat is not OEM, you take your chances later as they usually fail in the closed position and the engine overheats. Do NOT drill a hole!

If it is not OEM, replace it with OEM when you replace the ECT sensor.
