Oil viscosity (again) V70-XC70 2001

Greetings All,

Oops! Forgot to state the model and year on the first posting. Sorry.

Don't know if this subject has been discussed yet but according to my owners manual, the recommended oil viscosity over 86deg F is 10W30 and below is 5W30. The car came with 5W30 in the case. Is the owners manual impling that the oil should changed to the heavier viscosity in the summer and then back to the lighter stuff in the winter? The dealer couldn't give me a straight answer.

Regards,

Ray.

The recommendations are based on non-synthetics.

You can use 0W-30, 5W-30 or 10W-30 synthetic--at operating temperatures they are all in the same viscosity range.

Re: Oil viscosity (again) V70-XC70 2001

We do all changes w/ Mobil 10W30. I know most of the newer cars call for 5W30 and we are contemplating switching to that weight. If you moved to a real hot climate area we would suggest that you switch to 10W30 but if you used synthetic 5W30 you should be OK...

Re: Oil viscosity (again) V70-XC70 1999

My dealer always changed with 5-40 full synthetic of the brand Volvo.

They only have this kind of oil as brand and it is sold as original.

Haven't been able which industry makes it.

I change every 15000 kms. and the oild comes out perfect. No need for shorter intervals. The car has done 75000 kms. almost all of it on highway and mountain roads at high speed ((I'm on my 5th. set of tyres and had 3 sets of rear brake pads).

The oil consumption is ridiculous, less than 1 liter on 15.000 kms.

regards

René
