Preparing to replace the front driver side door latch mechanism. The door will not open from the inside or outside. Plan on going inside and removing the mechanism piece by piece until I get the door open. My concern is how do I do this without breaking the 2 rods that connect to the mechanism from the exterior door handle?

I recently replaced the front drivers door latch on a 1998 XC70. There is a trick to getting the old latch unit out and the new one in - the mechanism has to be rotated in order to fit into place. Try this Google search string for some very helpful information:

The search should locate a downloadable pdf file.
