ignition lock /key V70-XC70 2004

My 2004 v70 (150K) ignition started to act up (key difficult to turn in lock, has to be played with) several months ago and has gotten worse. It does not seem to be associated with the steering wheel lock (rock it back and forth, etc).
--- A key that is seldom used seems to work better, but still can be difficult to get the lock to turn.
---- I assume it is the lock that needs to be replaced. Any guidance on that
if I attempt it or is it best left to a garage (tried a couple of searches, no luck.
---- If the lock is replaced, any way to have the existing keys work?
