Satellite Prep S60 2005

My 2005 S60 AWD says it has "satellite prep." What does that include, what will I have to buy, how much $$, and does it look half-way factory in appearance.

Thanks

I think the OEM kit is around 400 dollars, may be able to find used online, the tuner mounts in the trunk, remove the area towards the left side of the trunk via the release knob and the tuner mounts close to the fuse panel. I attached a photo of what it will look like.

Thank you. This will help.

Does my radio/cd player have to be replaced?

No, there is a cable that connects that tuner unit to the back of the stock radio, I don't know if this cable is in the car by default or if it is part of the kit.

I am happy with satellite, have had it on and off for about 12 years now in various cars. You may likely find used units online but I did a quick search and could not find anything.

Best of luck, you may also consider some of the auxillary input setups available, and a standard after market tuner available. It would require that you have the tuner mounted somewhere to your liking in the car, but would work well. The folks over at crutchfield could probably recommend a good system for you, if they do not have the auxillary in setup, do a search for iMiv online, they have some cool setups.

I may also add, you may also get out with replacing the entire CD player with a proper aftermarket setup, one that has iPod control and satellite radio ability. Many folks will have varying opinions on brand name recommendations, I've personally always been a fan of Alpine, the units around 300 bucks nowadays have decent power output, and build in crossovers. In my opinion, the stock speakers would do well with a high pass filter set to about 50 Hz, add a sub to the trunk if you enjoy the low end...really depends what you listen to and how loud ;-)

If you decide to "upgrade" the CD player you may lose the steering wheel controls, depends on what you go with, FYI, not sure on your familiarity with aftermarket but there is a direct correlation to "get what you pay for" and your satisfaction. If you chip in about 800 nowadays you can get a proper aftermarket dual din size unit, GPS, sat radio, HD radio, bluetooth, etc....which would look really cool in an S60 dash

I found the below photo on a google search just to show what I was talking about, photo is not my property ;-)
