Correct 16" in wheels S40-V40 2001

What would the right size/spec be for 16" wheels. I currently have the Spectra 15s and would like to go to 16". I had an accident with a curb where I broke 2 wheels (and at least the front tie rods and other parts) and figured I might as well go up to 16 while I have to replace 2 of them.

What would you recommend? What brands are good? I thought I saw somewhere that the correct bolt pattern for the S/V40s is 4x108 but when I've looked around I see either 4x100 or 4x114.5. Also, what offset is correct for 16s? Would 16x7.5 be fine? The factory 16s are 6.5 or 7 wide.

Any body out there with the Volvo 16x7 Crater wheels for the 40 series?

Thank you

Alberto

JUST WONDERING: 7.5X16 ET35 FIT WITH 205/50/16 HAVING STANDARD 195/55/15???

BECAUSE 205/55/16 IS TOO BIG ON THESE WHEELS AND DAMAGE THE TIRE!!

    THANK YOU!!

205/50R16 should work just fine and is pretty much the biggest diameter tire you can use on the S/V40. 205/55R16 is too high and will rub on the wheel arches.

Some tuners also offer 225/45R16 for S/V40's, but I don't know exactly what offset they use.

      Bye, Arno.

Bolt pattern is a 'japanese' 114.5 x 4. Standard offset should be ET43, but most aftermarket wheels use ET37 or so, which is better suited to 215-wide wheels. You can toy with some wheel styles on the tirerack website.

Good wheels? Exact type is of course very personal, but try to stick to known good brands like O.Z., BBS, etc. and try to avoid real budget-type wheels (bad finish, dubious quality, etc.).

    Bye, Arno.

      Re: Correct 16" in wheels S40-V40 2001

I've been looking at TireRack and saw a few that I liked in 16" size. Unfortunately I money is an object and feel like I can easily justify up to $130 per wheel but not much beyond that. Do you know much about Moda (M1) or Zagato (Z12). I'm still unsure about which way to go. I think I'm going to submit this to my insurance company. The damage totals about $2000 (for now). The dealership priced 2 wheels at $654.

I'd like to see if the insurance company would let me use that towards buying my own wheels. If not I might just take what I had. It would be a disappointment as 16" with 205/50-16 would be noticeably better than the 195/60-15 I already have.

I'm not in the US and the wheel brands you guys get are pretty different from what we see here in europe, so I can't really give any meaningful answer there..

        > The dealership priced 2 wheels at $654.

Yup.. Those are Volvo wheels allright! I always feel that most are ugly *AND* expensive.

        > I'd like to see if the insurance company would let me use that

That would be the easiest. Get the cash, buy 4 nice 16" wheels, sell the 2 remaining Volvo wheels and perhaps buy a set of 4 steel wheels for winter tires at the same time.

Hope it works out for you..

        Bye, Arno.
