Is my automatic transmission functioning normally V70-XC70 99

This may sound like a stupid question but I want to know if this is normal and don't have a clue.

We have a 99 V70 with automatic transmission and today when my wife parked on a downhill slope, she accidentaly put the car in R instead of P we she turned off the car. When she took her foot off the brakes, she noticed the car started moving forward (maybe a foot or two) so braked again and then put it in P and then everything was fine.

We were just wondering if it is normal that:

A) the car would roll forward if the transmission is in anything other than N

B) the car would roll forward if the transmission is in R

Let me know. Thanks,

Mike

It sounds normal to me......but you should always use the parking brake when on a hill. It will reduce the stress on the trans and "parking pin" that holds the car from rolling.

Thanks for the quick answer. That's a relief, I figured it was probably ok but I just wanted to make sure.

As far as the parking brake, that's actually the first thing I told my wife when she told me about it.

      Thanks again,

      Mike
